Back to School Information

Hello Lil Cyclone families!

\r\n

The first day of school is one week away! Here are important dates and information to help you and your family be ready for a successful start!

\r\n
  1. Postcards announcing your child's teachers have been mailed. If you have not received your postcard yet, be sure to check your mail on Monday or Tuesday!

  2. Meet the Teacher will be Thursday, August 17th from 4:30-6:00. You may come anytime during that time frame! In addition to meeting your child's teacher, you will get to meet our new counselor, Mrs. Fetters! Come prepared to fill out a lunch application if you haven't already and to set up your child's lunch account. You will receive pick-up tags for your child and sign up for the bus if your child is a bus rider. Stop by the cafeteria for a treat as well!

  3. We would like EVERYONE, even if you think you won't qualify, to fill out the free/reduced lunch application! You can do it online by going to https://linqconnect.com/ and then choosing start meal application. It is discrete and private! The state is providing funds to pay for lunch of those students who meet the criteria for reduced lunch prices this year! Here is a tip: If your income varies throughout the year, use the lowest amount when completing the application. Click this link for more information and a QR code to access the application.

  4. The price of lunch has increased for this year and will cost $3.25 every day. There is no cost for breakfast.  Breakfast is served every morning in the classrooms.

  5. Our first day of school is Monday August 21st and is a Smart Start Monday, so school will start at 8:50. Buses will unload at our campus at 8:25 and car drop off begins at 8:30. If you need to drop off your child earlier than 8:30, we will have staff available from 7:30-8:30 to provide educational activities to children.

  6. Tuesday through Friday, school will start at 7:50. Buses will unload at our campus at 7:25 and car drop off will begin at 7:30.

  7. This year, dismissal times have changed slightly. Daycare and Boys and Girls Club will dismiss at 2:57. Walkers will dismiss at 3:02. Car riders will dismiss at 3:10. Bus riders will dismiss at 3:20.

  8. There will be no early check-outs allowed after 2:50 so that dismissal can flow smoothly out of our front entrances.

  9. Our attendance policy has changed for this year. Each semester, student will be allowed 6 excused absences for illness. In order to be excused, a written note from a parent or medical facility must be submitted when the student returns to school. When a student has more than 6 unexcused absences, the district will notify the prosecuting attorney. To read more of the policy, click here.

  10. Dwight Elementary will be committed to student learning this year. As a function of this, I will be spending three full days every week in classrooms in order to help improve the teaching and learning that happens on a daily basis. Therefore, I may not always be able to speak with you when you drop in or telephone me. However, I really do value communicating with you! So, when you want to speak with me, please contact my office staff who will schedule a time for us to talk. Thank you for your ongoing support of our schools and your patience and understanding as we implement these practices.

We are looking forward to a great school year together!
