Sequoyah prinicpal

The Russellville School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Romona Cheneval as the new Sequoyah Elementary principal to begin the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Cheneval will be leading Sequoyah Elementary after serving as the Director of Advanced Academics in the Little Rock School District for 7 years. 

Mrs. Cheneval has served in education for 31 years. Beginning as a Gifted and Talented Facilitator at the elementary level, Mrs. Cheneval has spent the majority of her career developing and strategizing extended learning programs for students at advanced academic levels.  

For the last 9 years, Mrs. Cheneval has served in numerous leadership roles in education. At Terry Elementary in Little Rock, Mrs. Cheneval served as the Summer School Principal where she led the program in assisting students with achieving grade-level proficiency in a variety of academic skills. 

For two years, Mrs. Cheneval provided leadership and instructional support to the students, families, and staff as the principal at Carver Magnet Elementary School. In this role, Mrs. Cheneval prioritized setting performance goals and collaborating with staff and stakeholders to support a positive school environment that promoted a growth mindset and met the needs of all students at every level.  

In addition to elementary and secondary education experience, Mrs. Cheneval used her skills and expertise as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Jody Mahoney Center for Gifted Education. In this role, Mrs. Cheneval taught graduate-level courses related to advanced academic education. 

Mrs. Cheneval’s education has created a foundation of expertise in meeting the needs of all students. In 1993, Mrs. Cheneval graduated from Southern Arkansas University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. In 1996, Mrs. Cheneval graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a Master of Education degree.

Mrs. Cheneval is excited to lead the amazing students and staff of Sequoyah Elementary. Mrs. Cheneval and her husband have grown to love the River Valley Area and are looking forward to moving to Russellville to be closer to her daughter who currently works as a nurse at Children’s Hospital and for the Clarksville School District.    

Mrs. Cheneval says, “I am incredibly excited about joining the Russellville School District and the Sequoyah Elementary team!  I am looking forward to supporting students, staff, and the community in elevating Sequoyah Elementary’s tradition of excellence to new heights.  ”
